Ah, yes. The wonders of photosynthesis. The ivy-draped behemoth in this picture isn’t a church (at least, not exactly). It’s Northwestern’s Deering Library, home to the university’s archives as well as its music and art collections. It’s currently undergoing renovations but slated to reopen in fall 2025.
College, Grad, & High School Admissions Counseling
We know what admissions officers are looking for: targeted, well-tailored applications whose authenticity shines.
We’re storytellers at heart, and our diverse experiences in the worlds of creative writing, journalism, and medicine have made us experts at candidacy building and editorial positioning.
Together, we’ll show admissions committees not just what makes you a great candidate generally but why you belong at specific schools.
Our full-service application packages include everything from essay support (including brainstorming and editing) and interview prep to activities list curation and a simulated admissions reading.
Want to add “podcaster” to your Common App Activities List? Start a Substack documenting your passion for ‘90s hip-hop? Open a small business to share your crêpe-making skills with the world? Maybe you want to start your school’s first lit mag or a medical-journal club. Whatever your passion (and even if you’re not entirely sure what that passion is yet), we’ll help you make it a reality.
Pre-12th Advising + Mentorship
How do you lay the groundwork for successful college applications? By using your high school years to discover, pursue, and excel in the fields you love.
Maybe a you’re budding neuroscientist. Or perhaps you’re looking to parlay your passion for bingeing true-crime documentaries into something, well, a little more befitting of a place on your Common App Activities List. Maybe you’ve always dreamed of starting a podcast, magazine, or your own nonprofit.
Maybe you’re not even sure yet what you’re into. (That’s perfectly fine, by the way!)
Through a combination of academics, extracurriculars (both in-school and outside-of-school activities), summer programs, internships, and individual projects, we’ll help you identify (and cultivate) the interests you’re passionate about.
Are the days of bubble filling and No. 2 pencils really behind us? Yes and no. Though the SAT has transitioned to a fully digital format, the ACT will offer students the option to choose paper or digital testing for the foreseeable future. As for APs, certain exams have migrated online while others will remain in paper-pencil format for the time being.
Standardized Test Prep
We get a lot of questions about standardized testing:
Does test-optional really mean “test-optional”?
How soon should I get started with the test-prep process?
The SAT and ACT are now digital?! What does that entail?
I heard the ACT and SAT are both shorter now? How will those changes affect my prep process?
I think I may need extra-time accommodations. How do I go about starting that process?
Is it true law schools now accept either the LSAT or the GRE? (And will it hurt my chances if I take the GRE instead of the LSAT?)
We know standardized testing can be, well, confusing, but we’re here to help.
At Park Slope Prep, we take a fully personalized approach to the test-taking process. We’ll start by having you take diagnostic tests. We’ll then analyze your results and provide you with an in-depth score report detailing your strengths and room for growth. Your score report will include a Testing Road Map detailing your starting point, what you need to do to reach your score goals, and how we’ll help you get there.
We offer tutoring for the following tests:
ACT/SAT
ISEE/SSAT
NYC Specialized High School Test (SHSAT)
APs (All subjects)
IB (All subjects)
GRE
GMAT
LSAT
MCAT
USMLE Step Exams
If you’re considering applying for extra-time accommodations, we can help with that as well: we have long-standing relationships with educational psychologists and can guide you through the process.
